Thank Heaven for Little Boys

April13

You see arms; he sees wings.
I see heaven in the form of a little boy.

Smooches!

May25

My son is a little ladies man. The shirt, by the way, is from Gymboree, which is having a FABULOUS sale. Everything in the store is $12.99 or less for their Memorial Day sale. Even the new stuff! I took in a 20% off coupon I got in the mail and they applied that on top of the discounted prices, so let’s just say I got shirts as low as $4.00 and some shorts that will mix and match well with the boutique shirts I get at the online sample sales.

The Groovy Bus Shirt

February28

I love this shirt so much that I put my son in it all the time last summer and fall. I had LOTS of pictures to pull from to show you. I also see that I paired it with a number of different shorts or pants so while orange and green may not seem easy to match – in fact, this shirt went well with a bunch of stuff.

The shirt is from Charlie Rocket, whose styles I love, love, love. Lots of tie-dye behind screened prints. My son calls this his “groovy bus” shirt and he definitely has the “groovy” part right. And guess what? YOU CAN STILL BUY THE SHIRT. On sale here for $22.99. I think I paid less cuz I got it on one of those online sample sales. Runs small so buy a size up.

Here, he’s wearing it with floral embroidered shorts from Old Navy. Below, he’s wearing it with green cargo pants from Janie and Jack.

This is part of my new series on where to find cute boy’s clothes. You might want to sign up for these daily online sample sales to help you in your quest:

  • Zulily – specializes in kids and some stuff for moms (tends to have more girl’s stuff than boy’s which frustrates the crap out of me)
  • Haute Look – multiple categories, like Gilt, high quality kids’ stuff (where I’ve had the most success)
Gilt – women’s, men’s, home, and children – good quality kids’ stuff
  • Totsy – tends to be more toy-heavy than clothes but boys need cool toys too!

One of My Favorite Sweaters

February23

I wish they made this cardigan in my size!

Cardigan: from Janie and Jack’s Winter Ski collection. Janie and Jack can be pricey so I head straight for their sale rack. I did not get this on sale; my sweet mother-in-law bought it for my son and paid full price. It’s one of my favorite things and I absolutely cherish it PLUS it looks great on my son.
Shopping Tip: follow Janie and Jack on Facebook for sales and sign up for their emails online. They’re owned by the same company as Gymboree so if you’re on Gymboree’s mailing list, you’ll also get special offers in the mail (rarely but they do come!) for Janie and Jack.

Shirt: it’s a grey polo with an embroidered racing car where the pocket would be. Also from Janie and Jack. Gone online but might still have them in the stores.

Pants: I usually pair this with a grey herringbone pant from H&M (not available online) but these are jeans from Old Navy.

All Dressed Up – on a Budget

February21

Sometimes I just want to put him in “church clothes” – even though we’re not church-goers. So I love it when I can find a “dressy” outfit at bargain prices:

Pants: Grey pin stripe from Old Navy. I like buying pants with stripes, herringbone, or tweed patterns. They mix great with patterned tops. They are out of the pants now but hopefully will get some fun patterns for spring.
p.s. – plaid shorts are the BEST for fun mixing and matching

Sweater: black and grey argyle from The Children’s Place, also gone but there are some other cute sweaters left.

Yeah, I put him in church clothes to go to Gymboree. Hey, it was a Sunday!

Not Your Typical Pirate Shirt

February17

Looking for cute boy’s clothes? Here’s today’s outfit:

Jeans: Old Navy

Long-sleeve wide-stripe shirt: H&M (unfortunately, you can’t buy their stuff online)

Short-sleeve pirate top: DaLilGuyz; I bought this t-shirt at HauteLook or Gilt, I think. You have to subscribe and watch out for the cute kids’ clothing sales. They also have good sales on DaLilGuyz at A Child’s Closet.

How Hard Is It To Find Cute Clothes for Boys?

    February14

It’s ridiculous how hard it is to find cute boys’ clothes. I am nothing if not obsessed about this topic. I spend HOURS shopping (mostly online) and am registered with every single online sample sale site out there. It’s the only way I can afford the cute boutique stuff.

My friend, Cara, recently asked me where I was getting some of my son’s cute clothes (she is the mother of two boys) and I get asked often when we’re out. So I think I’ll start a new feature where I’ll snap a picture of an outfit and tell you where I got each piece.

One of these days, I’m going to open a store of clothes, toys, and decor just for BOYS. But that’s one or two businesses in the future.

This is the outfit Cara asked about:

Navy Lined Pants: You can’t see them but they’re from Kushies, part of their 1953 line. Their pants run a little big.

Long-sleeve hot air balloon shirt: Me Too brand, which is from Denmark. I got it on HauteLook for about $14 but if you Google Me Too children’s clothes, you’ll see the line is carried in a lot of boutiques, like a Child’s Closet, TrendyKids and ComfyKids. Their regular prices aren’t bad, actually. I might have to stock up! I love, love, love this shirt! Runs long but I just roll up the sleeves and don’t care if the shirt length is long.
