This is great advice! I have a 2 year old who can make some of the biggest stinkies! We shred anything and everything, after shredding a credit card or whatever take it and put it in the diaper!

That’s a great tip, for people who are using disposable diapers. In my house, we give confidential papers to our pet gerbils to shred. Not only do they make really tiny shreds in a matter of minutes, but they need nesting material anyway and this way we don’t have to buy it, and also the shreds can be composted after we clean the cage!

But we can’t give the gerbils plastic, so when I cut up an old credit card I just put each piece in a different wastebasket. The odds of anyone being able to find the whole account number are tiny!!

Oh, and also, we keep our garbage as minimal as possible so we don’t have to take it out until the collection day. That reduces the amount of time it’s available to anyone who’d want to dig through it–unless they’re willing to break into the house.

Great tip! We don’t have any little ones in diapers, but we use our ickiest, stickiest, smelliest food trash to deter anyone who might dig through the trash.
